2012 - Present

Using fabric from cut-up men’s shirts, pencil doodles, and a mix of figurations and abstraction, these works are as much about the process of building an image as they are about deconstructing it.  Some of the collage works were made in a few days. Others took 25 years. American Gothic was first exhibited in 1993 with a different title, and then radically altered in 2019 when it was exhibited again.
Scraps of fabric remain stuck to different part of the canvas — remnants of removed collage elements that were not what the painting wanted. Figures emerge and disappear as the paintings alter course. The tell tale history of the search is what interests me as much as the final arrival at a place. It is almost as if I fail my way toward resolution.
